Happy Rally Day!!!

So it is Rally Day…For most of you that means a day off from classes (which is nice since we clearly are not going to get any snow days this year). For SENIORS (what what) it means taking out that god forsaken graduation gown and senior hat (yay) and go find out is going to be commencement speaker this year!

If you are one of those Smithies who refuses to take a day off or a senior being prematurely forced into a graduation gown, here is a list of the lectures, etc. that will be happening around campus!

Or…if you are a ballin’ alumn who is getting a medal today, holla at them here!

There is also BRUNCH!

This Week in the Senate

Today during my daily scan of Tumblr I found out that the Smith SGA has a Tumblog!  Hooray for transparency, and bravo to them for posting a round-up of this week’s senate topics.  Here is the text from Smith SGA’s Tumblr:

Issues on campus

Here is a list of issues that were raised in Senate this week:

  • Housing
  • Trash cans on campus (should we have more?)
  • Website could be more accesible
  • Recycling needed in Chapin and Hubbard
  • Pool hours (or gym hours in general)
  • Lack of inter-house bonding
  • House points could be more fair (could accomodate for house sizes)
  • Parking by the stables needs to be safer
  • Financial Aid is less available for International Students, leading some students to drop-out
  • Events app for the College with all events listed
  • 44 Green Street needs better facilities (washing machines, wifi)
  • Conversations about religious diversity need to be had
  • Tendency to alienate those with Conservative views
  • Disability awareness
  • OneCards should be easier to use with local businesses
  • Academic competitiveness leds to excessive stress
  • Trans* issues need to be talked about
  • Socioeconomic issues need to be talked about

Talk to your house Senators, or better yet, come to Senate and contribute to the constructive dialogue about what can be done to address these topics.

Senate meets every Tuesday at 7 in CC 103/104. Please come by and share your thoughts. Senate is an open forum and exists to address students’ concerns on campus.

Lots of love,

Your SGA Vice President

minkandvelvet’s favorite blog finds this week

I can’t help but share my internet-addiction fueled treasure hunt with you all again this week!

Maddie The Coonhound:

This is a dog named Maddie. This is a blog entirely filled with photos of her standing on things. She looks pretty calm and bored about the whole thing if you ask me. I would try to get my dog to do that, but his legs are too short and he doesn’t ever put up with my nonsense. Not even if i have his chewy bone.

Goths Up Trees:

Everything about this is wrong, but baby I don’t want to be right. I have so many unanswered questions about this. It’s also kind of similar to Maddie standing on things…but instead it’s goths…sitting in trees.

And let me just leave you with one more little present…

Another Day, Another List of Ways to Fail at the Gym

My homie Ladysmithd already covered some of the fashion atrocities that can get burned into your eye sockets by taking a trip to ye olde gymnasim, but now let’s talk etiquette.

1.WIPE DOWN YOUR FREAKING MACHINES. It’s actually astounding how often you’ll accidentally put your hand/leg/bootay down in some nice warm sweat when at the gym. It’s also astounding how much you Smithies sweat. Wipe it up, that shit’s gross.

2. Keep your eyes off of me. This applies to random Northamptoners, those high school basketball teams, and Smithies alike. Unless you are asking me how to use something or are clearly trying to see how the proper form looks, do. not. look. at. me. I’m not trying to race you, I don’t care about how you think you’re winning the elliptical/treadmill/bike race when you really just look like an idiot, and I don’t need to be making eye contact with randos at the gym. This Jenna Marbles video pretty much sums up how I feel about the topic:

Yeah, she’s awesome.

3. Deodorant. Know it, love it.

wooo!

There's no stopping a herd of jocks.

4. Don’t spend a year in one spot. I mean you, Smithies who I have actually seen sitting on a bike or weight machine and…not…doing…anything. Taking a rest between reps is one thing, but I’m talking straight up reading or spacing out or what have you. It’s peak gym time, baby, and you gotta make room for the pack.

Are You Ready? Sextravaganza 2012 is Getting Closer…

Co-op Livin

Didn’t get a Friedman for next year? Dining hall food or your current living situation got you down? Are you the best cook ever? Do you want to be?

New Diplo/Usher Track “Climax” Hits the Spot

I usually refrain some unleashing my audiophile impulse to share allll the music with everybody, but this is like the silkiest shit I’ve ever heard.  And it’s coming from Diplo(from Major Lazer…Pon De Floor, nah mean?) and Usher (from heaven, obviously).  Can’t resist dudes, can’t resist.

Smith’d on the Sophian on Smith’d

Are we famous now?

Hey Smithies. I’m sure you’ve all totally read the new issue of the Sophian by this point and have gazed upon the “Campus Blogs” article. It’s right next to the article about how you shouldn’t leave your laptops unattended (no shit, and no, I’m not making this up).

The Sophian contacted Smiffy, Ladysmithd, and me a few weeks ago about doing an interview for a feature about Smith’d and the recent surge of Smithie blogs. Since we like to stomp around and pretend that we’re the queens of the interwebz it was certainly exciting for us over here. However, I’d like to draw your attention to the huge amount of attention they focused on two now-defunct student blogs, the Smith Stalker and Life and Times of a First Year. Do I need to point out that it’s a bit strange to focus so much on two blogs that, essentially, failed?

Sophomore year apparently crushed both blogs, opening up a beautiful and happy spot for Smith’d in everyone’s hearts. Well we’re glad to be here, betches!

Sophian, we’re really happy for you. We’re gonna let you finish, but Smith’d is the one of the greatest blogs of all time. Don’t forget.
